1Overview

Cap2Code is a utility app that scans images and screenshots on your device to extract text and detect generic codes/IDs. We designed the app with privacy in mind: processing happens on your device by default. We do not sell your data.

2What data we access

  • Photos & Media (user-selected): With your permission, the app can read images you select (e.g., a specific album or screenshots) to perform text recognition and pattern detection.
  • Optional write access: If you explicitly use features such as import to Photos or delete from Photos, the app will request write access. These actions occur only when you initiate them.
  • Local results: Detected text/IDs and related metadata are stored locally on your device for your convenience.

Important: We do not require or access precise location, contacts, microphone, or camera.

3How we use the data

  • Perform on-device OCR and pattern detection on images you select.
  • Display detected IDs and allow you to copy, export (e.g., CSV), or open a web search for that ID.
  • Improve app reliability (e.g., error messages) and user experience.

4Data storage & retention

  • All recognized text and detected IDs are stored locally on your device.
  • You can remove these at any time by clearing data in the app (if available) or by uninstalling the app, which deletes all app data stored on your device.
  • We do not upload your images or recognized text to our servers.

5Data sharing

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
  • We do not share your images or recognized text with third parties.
  • System services: Apple may collect anonymized diagnostics and crash logs if you have opted in at the OS level. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

6Analytics & tracking

  • We do not include third-party analytics SDKs or advertising trackers.
  • Should analytics be introduced in the future, this policy will be updated and you will be informed where required.

7External links & web search

The app may open a web search for a detected ID via your chosen browser. We do not control third-party websites. Your use of external sites is governed by their own privacy policies and terms.

8Children's privacy

The app is intended for general audiences and does not target children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us to request deletion.

9International users (GDPR/EEA/UK)

  • Legal bases: We process data locally on your device based on your consent (Photos access) and to perform the app's core function (legitimate interests).
  • Your rights: Where applicable, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data. Because data is stored on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly by clearing data or uninstalling the app. You can also contact us for assistance.

10California users (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents may contact us to exercise their rights under CCPA/CPRA.

11Security

Processing is performed on-device. We follow platform best practices to minimize data exposure. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but we strive to use reasonable safeguards.

12Your choices & controls

  • Permissions: You can change Photos permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy → Photos.
  • Local deletion: Clear recognized data in-app (if available) or uninstall the app.
  • Exports: When you choose to export/share (e.g., CSV), you control the destination (Mail, Files, etc.).

13Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated date at the top. If changes materially affect your rights, we will notify you where required.
